Nobleton Sewers -Nob Alert Flyer Sept 17 09

Nobleton Sewers -Nob Alert Flyer Sept 17 09

The decision to have all or a portion of the existing properties hooked up to the sewers has yet to be made, so it is not a done deal at this point. The only properties that are guaranteed to be hooked up at this point are those in the new subdivisions.

Are you willing to put up with:
* Paying $24,792** for sewers to go down your street?
* Being mandated to hook-up to the sewers from your house (possibly another $6000 plus permit fees)?
* Paying a sewer charge every quarter (basically more than doubling your water bill, since the sewer charge is currently 111% of the water bill)?

You get what you are willing to put up with!

The next working meeting of King Council on this issue is Monday Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. We would encourage you to attend, even though you cannot speak at working meetings.

Please let Council know BEFORE Monday’s meeting whether or not:
· you want sewers,
· agree to the charges
· agree to possible mandatory hook-up.

Write to Council or send an email. Be sure to include your name and address. Your input is vital. The email addresses are included on page 2 of this flyer.

Nobleton Sewers Information (continued from page 1)
Info provided as a service from Nobleton Alert Residents Assn.

Health Problem?

* Medical Officer of Health did not declare Nobleton to have a health problem.
* York Region did not list Nobleton for sewers in its 10 year capital forecast. Slokker Canada had to upfront the costs of the local treatment plant in order to get approvals.
* If septics are installed properly and looked after with regular pump-outs and no antibacterial soaps, then they should work just fine.
* Septics can be repaired or replaced at a substantially lower figure than $30,000.

** The price of $24,792 is taken from the Committee of the Whole Report No. OP09-22 of Sept. 8, 2009 which assumes that York Region will give a grant of $1.3 M. It assumes that the whole town will be serviced from 2009- 2012 and also assumes 10% inflation annually. The entire report with various options (servicing the whole town, or just some parts of the town) can be found on the Township of King’s website under Council and Committee of the Whole (C.O.W.) Agendas. It was item #7 on the C.O.W. for Sept. 8, 2009.

Even if you were one of the 455 homeowners who originally wrote to Township, when 55% were generally opposed to the sanitary sewer project, please write again. The Council needs to be reminded of your views.
